  1. Pre-populated collections. eg psalm 23, Lord's Prayer, beatitudes, Romans road, I AM verses in John and so on. These should just be here when I launch the app and not have to manually build. Having no collections or 1 collection seems like a free app feature. Paying $5 for an app, I expect to have more in place.
  2. Social feed of other users to friend, follow, challenge. I should be able to see their progress if friended and if they have created collections, I should be able to subscribe to it or get notifications of new collections.
  3. Fuller integration with Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  4. Some sort of scoring or leveling system to gamify the process more (see Peak or Lumosity apps)
  5. Integration with services or other apps that have a daily bible verse. Set it up as a daily challenge. eg daily verse from Lifechurch.tv bible app
  6. Notification reminders. (See duolingo)

Thanks.

    Admin response

    Doug,

Thank you for taking the time to send us your suggestions. I will try to address each one for your (and others') reference:

    1. Pre-populated collections
      1. That's spot on. We have a feature in the works called "Topical Collections" that will provide curated selections of passages.  That idea is listed here.
      2. I'm sorry to hear that you think the app as it is currently made does not warrant $5. We have put a significant amount of effort into the design of the scoring system, memory games, progress tracking, and infrastructure of the app - as product developers and designers we think that the work so far justifies the price. That being said, we quite appreciate it when folks take the time to explain what they believe is lacking. Thank you.
    2. We're tracking with you re: the social feed idea. We've toyed around with that thought. That being said, this suggestion is closely related to your suggestion of "deeper integration with Facebook, Twitter, etc."  We do not want to make Verses into yet another social network that you have to keep track of.  To that end, we're reticent to add features like feeds that are designed for something to become a "platform" or "network" of its own.  We are purposefully working to keep Verses narrowly focused on effective Scripture memory.  Mainly because building social networking features is expensive and would consume much of our attention - we want to reserve our energy (and resources) for the specific things that only Verses can do.
    3. "Integrate" is an easy to use but hard to define word.  For anyone that reads this message and wished to contribute, please suggest some detail around what you would envision "Fuller integration with Facebook, Twitter, etc." to include.
    4. Verses actually has a sophisticated scoring and leveling system already built precisely for the purpose of "gamifying" the process. Our scoring and tracking system is indeed inspired by those such as Peak or Lumosity.  We also looked to Apple's own Health Kit design for inspiration on how to show progress toward goals.  What sort of changes to Verses's existing scoring and leveling system would you envision that would "gamify" the process more than it already is?  And why do you think more gamification is good?
    5. Similar to the suggestion for "Fuller integration with Facebook, Twitter, etc." - what do you envision a "daily challenge" from Lifechurch.tv to look like?  A daily popup that suggests you memorize the "verse of the day"?  Could you elaborate on why memorizing a "verse of the day" is a better use of your time in the app than, for example, memorizing specific passages around a purpose (or as you suggested above) a topic?
    6. Notification reminder are a very good idea.  We're hoping to make them a part of a broader strategy for what we're calling a "memorization assistant" inside the app. It will involve an algorithm based on the principle of spaced repetition and will help maximize learning while minimizing workload - all in the background. A lot of our design work with Verses is done with intent to build powerful underlying architecture that delivers very condensed, yet sizable, benefit to the end user.

I hope those answers are helpful to you and any others that have ideas similar to yours.

To you and anyone else, please feel free to comment or ask about any of the above.

Thanks for helping make Verses even better!
