Ideas for Verses

We need your help to make Verses even better!

Different Standard Translation

NKJV or NIV would be a better standard translation, hence, the only one that's free to people who use the app. I say that because mostly young people will be using this app and most young people don't read KJV because it's hard to read unless you know a little Romeo and Juliet. "Where art thou Romeo?" NKJV or NIV is a better version for the memory and it translates for everyone well without having to explain the thou, thee, and art.

    Alexis,

Thank you for taking the time to share your suggestion!! We really appreciate it when folks pause to let us know thoughts for improving Verses. We very much want everyone to be able to learn more Scripture, so every little bit helps.

We completely agree with you re: the ease of reading/learning of versions like the NIV or NKJV vs. the KJV. Unfortunately we are constrained by licensing limitations from publishers. We have to pay the translation publishers for each translation download in verses if that translation is not in the public domain (like the KJV).

As such, if we made the NIV or NKJV the default version in Verses new users would have to pay immediately when they download the app instead of being able to give it a try for free with the KJV first. :( Instead of requesting payment immediately, we currently think it is better to let folks try the KJV first and then, if they think Verses is helping them learn Scripture they can choose to purchase their preferred translation.

That being said, we're actively brainstorming on other ways to earn revenue to continue supporting our work on Verses and, if we can figure something out, we'd love to make all translations free one day.

Please let us know if you have any other thoughts for improving Verses!

The Sword project (open source desktop Bible software) had a free translation that somebody made called the modern king James version (MKJV) last I looked at it. It may be a worthwhile compromise.

I love and use the KJV regularly. This app is perfect for people like me who need not look further into other translations. Thanks!

I agree.  The KJV is most difficult to understand.  The NKJV ot ESV would be better free apps.  Disappointed free is KJV
